Ask Morela: The One Skincare Step I Never Skip
Dear Morela,
I’m trying to build a better skincare routine, but sometimes I get overwhelmed by all the steps and products. If you had to pick just one thing you never skip, morning or night, what would it be?
Without question: sunscreen.
Every morning, whether I’m going outside or just sitting near a window, I apply broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher. It’s not just a routine step; it’s essential. Ultraviolet radiation is responsible for up to 80% of visible skin aging. Daily sun protection prevents collagen breakdown, pigmentation, and fine lines long before they begin.
Even the most luxurious creams can’t undo the damage that unprotected skin collects over time. I always say: SPF isn’t a trend, it’s a baseline. It’s the most intelligent, high-impact skincare decision you can make. For me, applying sunscreen is a daily act of commitment to the long-term health and resilience of my skin.
At night, it’s cleansing. Always.
No matter how tired I am, I never go to bed with the day still on my face. Pollution particles, excess oil, and even stress can cling to skin and create inflammation if not properly removed. A gentle, pH-balanced cleanser protects the skin barrier and prepares the skin to fully absorb actives like peptides, retinoids, or ceramides.
Great skincare isn’t about how many products you use; it’s about using the right ones with consistency. Protecting and cleansing are where it all begins.
With love,
Morela
