Decadent French Toast Casserole

Ingredients
1 loaf of Brioche or Challah bread, cut into 1-inch cubes (about 8 cups)
8 large eggs
2 cups whole milk
1/2 cup heavy cream
3/4 cup granulated sugar
2 tablespoons pure vanilla extract
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon salt
For the Topping:
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into pieces
Powdered sugar for dusting
Maple syrup for serving
Instructions
- Prep the Bread:
Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish. Spread the bread cubes evenly in the dish. - Mix the Custard:
In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Pour this mixture over the bread cubes, pressing down gently to ensure all bread is soaked. Cover and refrigerate for at least an hour, or preferably overnight. - Make the Topping:
In a medium bowl, mix flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Add the cold butter pieces and, using your fingers or a pastry cutter, mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Refrigerate until ready to use. - Baking:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Sprinkle the topping evenly over the soaked bread.
- Bake for 45-55 minutes, or until the casserole is set and the top is golden brown

Let the casserole cool slightly before serving. Dust with powdered sugar and serve with maple syrup.
